They could always look up the definition of genocide at the OCHR homepage. The word does have a legal definition.

For some reason, the pro-Palestine crowd never does. I'd hazard at a guess it is due to influence from post-modernism, trying to get a word to fit where you need it to, for political reasons (c.f. "trans-genocide" or "meat is murder").

The Mufti of Jerusalem (Hitler’s buddy who wanted to extend the Holocaust to the Palestine Mandate) was Yasser Arafat’s godfather. There’s connective tissue from Hitler to the Mufti to the keffiyeh wearing Arafat and now to the keffiyeh wearing ‘Current Thing’ crowd. I doubt many of them know or make the connection.

http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/212881/father-modern-terrorism/andrew-c-mccarthy

Additionally, the UNWRA, since its creation in 1949, counts each & every Palestinian birth — as a refugee. From birth, every Palestinian has been cast as a victim by the UN for the past 75 years, and counting. The only refugee people group on the planet afforded this blessing (or curse), depending on one’s POV, are the Palestinians. Some escape this bondage, and sadly, many do not. Many that do escape, escape into working for the UNWRA. And then that particular circular sickness, continues.

Arafat had the chance to make eternal peace with Israel. His familial ties to the Mufti (and the Muslim Brotherhood) however, prevented that. It is indeed so sad that Palestinians are forever given a hand out rather than a hand up.

Right before Oct 7, Israel, Egypt and Palestinians (PA/Hamas) were about to start development of the Gaza Marine field (Natural Gas). Israel had prevented this development for the past 20 years, thinking that proceeds would be used for terror purposes. But Israel finally relented (in June 2023) to allow its development, on a similar timeline to Saudi Arabia normalizing relations w/ Israel (would have been 7th Arab country to do so). How many Palestinians jobs were shot down due to Oct 7? Iran doesn’t care. Iran felt threatened by a new $$ source replacing them. Gotta stop that. At every turn, the Palestinian youth get the shaft.

Is it not true that post WWII the allied powers, lead by the US and the Zionists political group, first touted Uganda as a permanent home for the displaced Jews of Europe?

Palestine is an ancient land that has been stolen. It’s the simple truth. Denying it won’t make it go away. Even the ‘Two State’ proposal is an affront to common decency. That the ‘Two State’ option is the best, after so many years of abuse and illegal occupation/purchase, is a blight on our collective humanity.

Learn history, check the ever changing demographics of nations and empires. The ongoing brutal creation of Israel is not something that should be entertained in the Twenty First Century. ENOUGH!

Expand full comment

That's a lie, the land was stolen from Israel by the Romans and Jews bought up the land that is now the Jewish state. There has never been a Palestinian state or a Palestinian people.

Expand full comment

Nor a Palestinian govt, not prior to the creation of the Palestinian authority in the 20th century. And even they were never in control of the made up Palestinian people. Never anything before that. Zero history.

Israel had its name changed by Roman conquerors to insult them and wipe the name from existence, in the second century, which is something that has been attempted since they became a nation the first time, several millennia ago, in the days of Abraham, and has been the goal of many ever since.

For millennia it was Israel and belonged to the Jewish people. They went BACK to their land, some were actually still there, in 1948 as the only Jewish state and the original Jewish state.

How many Arab countries are there? Where did most people claiming to be Palestinian come from, ancestrally? Jordan primarily, and other Arab countries.

Roy, every inhabited land on earth has been ‘taken over’ by another. A short read of history gives one countless examples. I’ve read a lot of history. If you have too, then you know this is a true statement. What is also historically true is that when a land is forcibly taken, those in that land assimilate to the new occupants. This truism goes back to the ancient of days. Jews themselves were herded into the Pale of Settlement over the centuries (present day Ukraine) because people groups in places like Spain, France and Italy made it real tough for Jews to assimilate there. I think the reason the Palestine Mandate sits in your and others’ craw is because it happened within a saeculum, and within this human timestamp, is still actively remembered. For example, nobody is still actively upset that Spain took Mexico, or that USA later took lands from Mexico. Cause everyone who was alive then, is now dead and gone. What makes the 20th century different than the 21st century, or for that matter the 19th or 18th? You are placing some kind of moral superiority on the 21st century and you should ask yourself why and explain what makes now more special than previous centuries? Perhaps you think humankind has somehow evolved to be something different in 21st century compared to before?

One could make other arguments about Jews having historical ties to land, the fact that they purchased land when returned in large numbers (Zionist movement derived a lot of energy from Jews living in The Pale), or that they fought, bled and died to establish their present state. But I don’t think this would move you from your position.

Expand full comment

It's more complicated than that. Israel and Iran are the only two technologically and culturally sophisticated nations in the Middle East. They are extreme rivals of each other because they have no other competition.

Expand full comment

there are more complications, in that the population of the state of Israel is composed of Zionists (not of Judaic descent), those of Judaic descent, and others.

Zionism started in the Khazar Empire (basically, Moldova via Krasnodar Krai, the Rostov Oblast, Georgia, Alania Republic, Stavropol Krai, Strakhan Oblast, to (and including part of) Western Khazakstan).

the dotted lines connecting the orchestrated conflicts in Gaza and the Ukraine are not difficult to join.

the Palestinian tribes (a subset of the Bedouin) are historically nomadic, so there is no such animal as geographic Palestine.

most individual Iranians have no significant problem with Israel, however the government does, so (as is the case with money) if you back-track things far enough, you will learn that it is all about control — self-control being conspicuous by its absence from that equation.

Why Israel, a nation in the Middle East, is competing in the ESC, is a different issue. Might want to look into that, and also why Turkey is in it along with Cyprus. Clue: politics.

Malmö is ruled by the national Socialist Democrat party who is fully dependent on the moslem vote. The city's jewish population is approaching zero by now, down from ca 800 families 20 years ago.

Greta has been convicted of several crimes in Sweden, but due to tax-planning she is listed as being without income or visible means of support (despite being a millionaire) so she has only received the mildest punishment: very low fines. Since our prisons are overcrowded with non-white criminals, the courts opt for fines when the crime is non-violent in nature, but sooner or later she'll run into a court that remembers that repeat offenders are to be sent to prison.

Article in swedish about the ESC and Malmö:

https://samnytt.se/samnytt-pa-plats-infor-eurovision-i-malmo

Take a look at the pictures. The grafiti-wall is legal to paint or scrawl on, escept for political messages or advertising. Calling for the extermination of jews, showing support for terrorist groups, or inciting racial hatred are all crimes with several years in prison as possible punishment. Notice how the police are just looking - if they'd start to arrest the arabs spewing their vile hate, there'd be riots throught all of the moslem-controlled areas of Sweden, and the police know they have already lost that battle.

At the bottom of the article there's a link to a clip, have a look.

This is what letting moslems of any kind, arabs of any kind, into your nation does. Every time, no exceptions.

The crown sponsor exists in the Balfour Declarations delivered by the Imperialist Crown of England. It took care of the Jewish problem of immigration into England and sent it somewhere else. That somewhere else is Palestine which was 90% Arab, living in peaceful coexistence with other peoples who weren’t into controlling the land as early Zionist leaders were intent on. From 1917 on, this has been a coordinated removal of Arabs from that land just as it was done in the US to the native tribes. Every such instance, not only in the West, is characterised by that back-lash you describe, but also by how the civilisation in question rode it out (plus external factors such as invading Boat Peoples, huns, tidal waves and so on).

On balance, I'd say that the more dispersed the power structure of a civilisation and the less of the "We're new hot and the pinnacle of history"-syndrome, the better it weathered the snap-back.

Europe's cultures triumphed because of being many nations, many peoples, making for a dispersed power-structure. Combined with competition and wars, it meant we had development like no other civilisation has ever had - in a century, europeans achieved more than chinese or africans or arabs managed in over half a millennia, or even longer.

Conversely, chinese and arabic civilisations are and were top-down, narrow in structure and with a singular power (bureaucracy and islam resp.) able in putting itself before all else - like a Jenga-tower, all it took was for the right brick to come loose.

Now, thanks to capitalism and neo-liberalism, european civilisation has created for itself both a monolithic power structure and have started to remove the diversity (real diversity, not Hollywood newspeak for racial quotas) required for dispersal of power.

To use an image: a copse of trees survives storms better than a single one does.
