It's kind of ironic, because one of the founding ideas of America is that government will always suck. I believe that now more than ever. 😉

I love an optimist. Thank you.

Keep preaching hope.

I look around and see very little evidence of rooting for America

Sadly, all 3 branches no longer root

One of the most glaring is how they have ALL violated the oaths they took to

support and defend the Constitution

In particular: Article IV, Section IV: INVASION

Until we get the nogoodniks, who are in power in every branch of government, get rid of the the NGOS, and the commie cheering media we don't have the country we thought we did. If we didn't learn that with Covid, what they did/ do to Trump, and the educational nonsense then we'll never learn.

Great article and great point. The older I get the less desire I have to travel outside the US. As bad as our healthcare system is there is no other place on Earth I’d want to seek medical attention. And for all our faults we have every climate available to us traveling within the States. Let’s just hope it isn’t too late to turn it back around.

Great article. American rocks!💪🏼

Russians may earn less but their cost of living is also much lower. Surveys (run by western firms) of Russians and Chinese people also find much higher satisfaction with their governments than any western country. I’m sure if we actually had democracy in the west we’d be a lot happier but the fact is all western countries are basically oligarchies now presiding over a corrupt system of crony capitalism. In that scenario it’s not surprising that some authoritarian governments are rated more highly, particularly where they deliver increasing quality of life to their citizens over time instead of the other way round.

That’s because they can’t criticize their government like we can.

Can We??????

Seems to me there are some protesters who were criticizing election results on Jan 6 who are still in jail without trial four years later. Many who did nothing other than walk into the Capitol building.

This country is not as free as many people think it is. Read some of John Whitehead's articles at the Rutherford Institute. That would be a good starting point. - https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary

Yes freedom of expression. Just like those on Jan 6th. Still in jail years later without due process. The land of the FREE - NOT

Was going to agree with your comment, but for some reason my like button doesn't work on comments anymore, so I kind of reiterated what you said as well!

Kathleen Janoski's avatar

My "like" button hasn't worked for over one week now. I contacted Substack support and they seemed surprised that I was having difficulty. Find that hard to believe because many people posting have stated the same difficulty.

Deep State interference maybe?

The Watchman's avatar

Have seen others state this as well. Messaged Substack, but so far they haven't go back with me. I can still like posts just not comments. If anyone knows a fix for this would appreciate it. I have changed none of my settings lately so it isn't that.

Kathleen Janoski's avatar

I even tried using 2 different computers in 2 different states with 2 different internet providers.

Nothing worked.

Substack seemed surprised there was a problem.

Did not work.

I'm on a Chromebook.

It worked for years...then it stopped. I didn't change computers.

Can we really? Where is Julian Assange right now?

Jailed in a horrible UK prison call Belmarsh.

Thank you Jordan for writing this wonderful essay. I believe in the beauty of our great country…we can right it, yes we can…

In the last 25 years (maybe it’s been longer), the US sadly has not been a force for freedom, justice, peace, prosperity, or anything good, but rather a hegemonic demon, bringing war, disease, death, and suffering to every corner of the globe. We need to see that clearly, and fix that, and take off the rose-colored glasses.

Jonm's avatar

Yes we are WAR worldwide. Every time I see a maimed soldier I want to send the bill to George W and make him pay for that poor guys care. They weren’t (aren’t) fighting for our freedom they’re fighting for halliburton and blackrocks bottom line.

I missed that truth for most of my life, sadly. Listen now to GW Bush’s speech to the joint session a week after 9/11. By the light of time, it’s horrifying; but then, somehow, I cheered it on (I wish I could put it my charitably for myself, but I can’t) … I don’t know how I could have been so blind. I try to remember that when people like Jordan start waving the flag; or when my Jewish friends drag out their threadbare excuses for Gaza.

The current collection of ruling class degenerates and thieves in power are a a stain on the history of the country. But they are not the country. We are. And we need to clean up the mess. These losers don’t care about America. They care only about themselves, accumulating power and wealth. But we care.

We’re gonna have to start acting like it matters or we will be too late.

God Bless America.

Trump 2024.

While I'm no knee-jerk jingoist, it took the global declaration of a pseudopandemic for me to appreciate the foresight & wisdom of the albeit flawed founders of our country, and the constitution they bequeathed to their posterity. Our federal system is what ensured that not all of the states in our imperfect union followed lockstep with the Branch Covidian madness.

I cannot cheer for my nation as it destroys itself.

Excellent article, and the destruction of the U.S. and the West is deliberate. The issue is why Westerners are so willing to weaken and ultimately destroy their own societal systems and countries for themselves and their children and grandchildren. Quite incomprehensible. I'm a follower from Sweden who has also studied at GWU in Washington DC and lived for a while in the US.
