As an island it had the lowest natural immunity rate because it did the best mitigating spread and it has a high vaccination rate…and it has the lowest Covid death rate. It had police guarding it to keep anyone out, and the hospital staffed it with nurses to care for the people. I feel that our overall numbers are low because of these measures.
The Ute reservation totally locked itself down to stop the transmission of Covid. This is something that the Navajo’s didn’t do, and they lost a lot of people.
Another thing that helped us was that it’s over 100 miles and a mountain pass in every direction to get to an interstate highway. We just didn’t have many people passing through that brought the disease into the community.

Actual travel restrictions like Hawaii or effective like Florida Keys did slow spread the best. But keep in mind everyone ended up getting Covid.
