Still, to paraphrase a famous american, planning not plans are what's important. That the KGB (later FSB) had plans to destabilise and corrupt western markets is fact, and so is that the KGB moved rubels to the value of several, possibly tens, of billions of dollars into european banks during the 1980s.

And Putin is old-school KGB.

Zelensky could be playing both sides against the middle, so to speak.

Just spit-balling, but counting on US corruption due the well-known collusion between US political parties, corporations and banks as a way to drag potentials like the Clintons in the 1990s and the Bidens in the 2000s into a mire of corruption forcing them to help out to cover their asse(t)s, well, it's as safe a bet as when the KGB/FSB did it in Europe during the Jeltsin years and kept doing right up until around 2014.
