I keep the name Nick as my name , in tribute to my crew on LST-1195 , it saved my life a few times during dangerous operations since everyone on the ship had a name different than everyone else. It is completely demoralizing to the pilots. I know first hand as one of them is a family member. There is a known mechanical defect with the Osprey which likely was the cause of previous crashes. The Navy knows about this defect and has ignored it for many years. I must admit that I am thankful the Ospreys have been grounded but I don't delude myself that the Navy will actually fix the defect and then start flying them again.
To me, the health of the aviators (and everybody else who was forced to take the shot) is more important than the Osprey matter. I thought years ago the Osprey should have been permanently grounded. When I was in the Navy, no one had a first name when being addressed.
Oftentimes, you were just called by your last name in a informal setting.
In a more formal setting, it was just your rank and last name.
It eliminated the need for those pesky pronouns.
