AI is just like anything exists in this world, you can use it either for good or for evil!
A simple example: you can use a knife & fork to enjoy a mouthwatering delicious meal in a restaurant with your loved one, or you can use them to kill someone and shred them to pieces!
AI is exactly the same, it can be used for love, peace, joy, and prosperity.
But it can also be used for total death & destruction.
The distinction is clear, good versus evil!
So far, we can only see AI is used by the evil Satanists for a definite death & destruction.
Good piece. I think what the tech-bros are worried about is the ease with which bad people can abuse AI. And Amodei's swears he's not bad.... Typical Bay Area piety.
I'm sure there are doomer briefings everywhere that basically say, "AI can do this bad shit, but we will load code to stop it. Ain't gonna work. As was made obvious last week with the EU chiller prank, we will see bad shit happen. State (NSA has decades of experience) and non-state actors will run code to disrupt connected tech. And it will turn out like Stuxnet where once deployed, it was copied and improved.
The real question is how well will IT defensive programs keep up with the onslaught of AI malware self-coding to defeat those defenses. That's why contingency plans for a return to a disconnected world are being developed.
In the long run, AI will be net good. But the replacement of our socio-economic reality of that good will make the Industrial Revolution look like a walk in the park.
What galls me about these AI companies, they can create this thing and grow it. Why have they not created a kill switch. Instead as you say, they sell the doom whilst making it even more powerful and a potential threat. Yet have no valid defence mechanism. That my friend is the definition of utter stupidity. Unless they have the kill switch and are happy for AI to run amok, they can sell the cure for more than the disease. That would not surprise me in the least.
He is a typical old fashioned rent seeker pushing fear porn
Seems to me that it was Israel and not AI that was on the ballot.
Seems AI curates your feed....
