The fact we still allow foreign influence via non-profits/NGOs is insane to me. It doesn't surprise me its happening now with AI though.
I agree about beating China in the AI race. We absolutely need to. I also agree we need more data centers. However I have concerns on the domestic front that I really haven't heard good arguments for or at least enough from leaders that it makes me feel comfortable.
1) Power - Our infrastructure cannot handle more data centers right now. How do we plan to power them? (My personal vote is we need more nuclear)
2) Cost to run/maintain these data centers - Its insanely expensive to run these data centers. Eventually that cost will be passed onto the end user. I am not entirely convinced the juice is worth the squeeze from a strictly financial standpoint.
3) Eminent domain - I will always have a problem with this one. Its immoral and evil. Don't care what benefit comes from it, its wrong.
4) Workers - Who works at the data centers? Foreigners/H-1Bs? It appears we are importing workers. Maybe that is not true but I want proof. We need to hire Americans.
5) Water - These data centers use a lot of water, though the water can be recycled. This one actually doesn't really concern me all that much
The extra tax revenue argument is the best argument for data centers I have heard. Will it be enough to offset the negatives? As Americans I think we can overcome anything we need to but I also need some more assurances.
