The unfortunate reality is that Trump is not especially intelligent. His idea of competing with China is unrealistic. China is run in a different and more effective way. The US is probably on its last legs. It is over $40 trillion in debt. There is no coming back from that.
China does have artificial intelligence controls. It doesn't have to incur the costs of capitalism which include frequent bailouts, new deals, tax breaks, and infrastructure built at the behest of capitalist masters. Capitalism is a great idea if you live in an Adam Smith utopia, but it's never worked in practice without huge massive infusions of government money.
Trump also seems to not realize that in a war with China, they could fold up the US military in a couple of month because the US depends so much on products made in China.
AI is another way for the tech bros to get richer. It's not really intelligence, it is a tool. But not as impactful as it is built up to be.
We definitely don't need supranational regulation, which is only ever an excuse for local governments to impose highly unpopular measures. I agree with the pint made here: after 80 years the United Nations have long outlived their useful lifetime. We need to return to strong national identities that are capable of keeping each other in check.
