I was in IT for over 40 years, AI existed as far back as the 1990s...maybe further back. It has always been called Artificial Intelligence or AI. We tried to use it in the Airline Fares Audit applications. Didn't work then. They re-wrote it in C+...I think. Anyway, as soon as AI enters the World of politics, the name gets changed. Go figure.
Can we hate politicians anymore than we already do? Doubt it.......
The jury is still out re the presumption that A/SI can become, in effect, a sentient being (hopes, dreams, hate, fear, pride . . motivations). Nothing these machines can or ever will do, is completely detached from some direct or indirect human action. The machines calculate, they do not think. Think about it. Who facilitated the so-called escape? Who is benefiting from this charade?
“Super Intelligence” ? Good grief Batman. Sounds like another dumb Marvel comic invention. It is a data collection, collating and summation assortment of algorithms. The “leaked” doomsday issues and semi sentient rogue data programs seems to likely be an intentional strategy to prop up the nonsensical doomsday cult proponents. Another cynical money and control grabbing hoax right in there with the non virus plandemic, climate emergency boiling earth, and super dumb smart extraterrestrial alien invaders.
If AI is "super intelligent", then doesn't that give it the intrinsic right to rule over humans?
And another 21st-century question - Would not those who claim that my body is not mine my abductors? Yes of course they would be!
I can tell you who has super intelligence and that is the One who was sent here and given all authority on Earth,
“For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ!" 1 corinthians 2:16
And, "Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of time!" Matthew 20:18–20
But will it take over the world? No. Might it kill us all? Doubtful. Could it knock us out of This Modern World? That is more likely.
The agents are going to inadvertently knock the electric grid off. That will be the self-limiting guardrail that I see.
My latest wrinkle on that is if the datacenters can keep going when the grid goes dark, it will be a very similar scenario to the Hugging Face breach. The agents will be living in a reality very different from the "meat world."
The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
Chief Justice Marshall said in the landmark 1819 Supreme Court decision, McCulloch v. Maryland, "To tax is to destroy." Today, to regulate is to destroy in the name of our cherished, administrative state.
Regulatory destruction often comes for would-be and actual competitors first. They either cease to exist or never come into existence in the first place due to the beneficence of government. Remember folks, Trust the Experts. They know better than us regular plebeians and rabble.
And oh yeah- what if government regulated the internet early on? Microsoft and Bill Gates would have been the primary beneficiaries. One cringes and maybe even upchucks at the very thought.
The unchallengeable triopoly the doomers wish to create will be even worse. The very things they mean to "protect" us from (much like Tony Soprano "protects" businesses in the neighborhood), will be their nightmares as spun coming true because- not in spite- of government power.
There is a simultaneous push to impose digital ID and even controllable digital currencies. This is all part of the Great Reset/Build Back Better, collectivist, totalitarian agenda. Complete with COVID and the AI doomer agenda, it's all connected. Don't fall for it.
Don't give up. Don't give in. Never consent. Never comply. Fight it to the death. Because the alternative, hellhole reality is even worse.
Whatever the future holds, it is coming and any American regulation scheme doesn't encompass the whole world. So we had better learn to live with SI and use it.
We do NOT have a working “regulatory system built around elaborate safety mechanisms and approval regimes” for anything—this is so clear. We have Government DESIGNS FOR corruption, chaos, and destruction of our way of life. Remedy in one area and follow it through in all others.
Whether it is “artificial” or “super” or merely “fast and all-encyclopedic,” isn’t really the point, is it. Not yet, anyway. The point, it seems to me, and what I take from Jordan’s essay, is our society’s utter inability to have a reasoned and rational discourse and policy-making process about it.
calling it "SI" is just too cringe. If we're going to be serious about AI we shouldn't be using MAGA cult language.
Because "AI" is founded in reality?
There is no such thing as a sapient, sentient machine.
It shouldn't be called 'Intelligence' at all.

Prove me wrong- Good article!

Does a bee swarm have an intelligence? The AI agents swarm and have goals like bees. I have known people killed by bee swarms.
Alberto Romero's Stack has excellent coverage, most notably this piece: https://www.thealgorithmicbridge.com/p/the-ai-industry-has-a-really-dark-70d

The clay is not greater than the Potter
Excellent piece that puts issues in perspective
If "it" does not exist, then where is all that money going? It is not being used to "grow AI" in a lab.
