And you can understand why some courtrooms try to weed out potential jurors by asking if they know of the concept. Judges HATE being overruled in their own courtroom if they choose to apply an unjust law against a defendent. Judges also try to keep pro-se litigants and lawyers from exposing the concept of jury nullification to jurors.
They don't like the idea of "natural law" because it's... well, natural. And is easily observed by anyone, and some judges try to avoid having those principles used to undermine badly passed law.
Also read the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers. They explain some of the thoughts behind parts of the constitution. You'll realize that these founders were just some old guys (most were in the mid 30-40's), but were DEEP studiers of successful and failed forms/practices of government. The Federalist Papers pushed for a strong federal government. The Anti-Federalist papers helped bring in the Bill of Rights that protected God-given rights, and charge the government to also protect those rights for individuals.
