the right/left labeling gets very murky. And I'm not even sure how prevalent these labels were used before the 1980s. Mussolini and Hitler gained followers not by using their media to call themselves 'rightwing', as this is a pejorative. They called themselves left wing, the right way to think, the enlightened way to think. Thus it is no shock that the Ivy League and similar universities in the US (where our media insists they are leftwing), have always been at the forefront of antisemitism and eugenics. The 'left's' greatest skill is in lying about its past positions, as soon as they are fully acknowledges as being rightwing fascism, and insisting that they did not support it at the time. This is of course a blatant lie. edited: Note that Mussolini and Hitler were obviously classic rightwing fascists--but they did not refer to themselves as such.
Hitler was always a fascist with occult beliefs and psychopathy. Mussolini was very much a socialist with libertarian morals.
Two very different kinds who formed a strange quilt sewn up with Japan and Finland. To call all four gangs of leadership of the Axis as the same right wing groups is confounding. It sounds much like that very same Soviet propaganda mentioned.
Mussolini (and WWII Italy) are not heavily covered by the books/historians I read. A quick study would indicate Mussolini was not near the fascist that Hitler was, as Mussolini seemed to be not very active in rounding up Jews. So I'd say, that I'm not sure how to classify Mussolini, but he was not the same as Hitler.
The propaganda system in the US, as well as what we're told about Soviets, is heavily influenced by the legacy of extreme naziphilia of the US ruling class. In general, Jewhatred (desire to do away with the laws of the Torah) has been a consistent trait of 'fascism' for millenia. US leaders and media have been lying out the wazoo about Israel for years. So I definitely can't say that the Soviet propaganda system lies any worse than that of the US.
