Really enjoyed this piece, and a little surprised too. I have been skeptical of Gaetz. But you’re right. He may not be perfect, but it’s hard to know who really knows what he’s up to. Well your judgment will be in suspense for a very long time then, Daniel. This is just the first salvo in a very long war. Actually capping spending won’t happen in a meaningful way until and unless more fiscally responsible Reps are elected. The immediate point is to get on record those Republicans that are in Congress who want to continue expanding government (those approving more spending). Those are not actually Republicans, IMO, and in opinion of many others. They need to be challenged at next election and booted. Continuing Budget Resolutions (CR’s) have absolved Republicans reps from proper accountability. I am holding out hope that next Speaker, as a prerequisite for obtaining Speakership, must agree to bring spending bills to House for vote, one-by-one. Get everyone on record for each bill and do not hide it in a CR or ombudsman resolution. Every voter, regardless of party affiliation, should want the same. That is my understanding of how the Founders established our Republic, and the sooner we return to these common sense budget principals, the sooner we can start the long journey to save our Republic for all future generations.
I do not expect anything meaningful to come from this at all. I guess I might give Gaetz and Co. a decent grade for shaking things up temporarily but if history is any indicator this will end up just pissing the general public off and enforcing the idea that the Rs are unable to get anything done. Most aren’t into the “inside baseball “ ideas that you articulate and the media will beat them relentlessly.
Daniel, inflation is high now, higher than it’s been since early 1980’s. Kids are having a hard time buying new homes, interest rates are so elevated. If I’m Gaetz and crew, I’d stay on script that these punishing economic conditions are direct result of too much debt, too much spending. That to me isn’t inside baseball. It’s common sense. Draw up a chart like Ross Perot and stick to it. If opposition cries that Federal workers are not being paid, create singular bills to pass YES/NO to fund. Get back to basics. I’d like to believe people will say “enough” but I thought that in 2022. People couldn’t buy a car, toilet paper and other things. All incumbents were pretty much returned. The Rs should have gotten bigger majorities. Since then there have been 30 Special Elections throughout the country. The Ds have over performed in all of them winning most. Get outside these forums. Most people don’t pay attention to this stuff outside of what they get on their browsers, Facebook or even Fox News. Life doesn’t really suck that much for a lot of people as long as they get their NFL games or whatever the distraction of choice might be. I guess we’re going to see but for now I remain unconvinced.

You want to ensure Seniors receive their Social Security checks. Pass that bill. Military pay? Pass that bill. Increased funding for Department of Education? Maybe not. Well your judgment will be in suspense for a very long time then, Daniel. This is just the first salvo in a very long war. Actually capping spending won’t happen in a meaningful way until and unless more fiscally responsible Reps are elected. The immediate point is to get on record those Republicans that are in Congress who want to continue expanding government (those approving more spending). Those are not actually Republicans, IMO, and in opinion of many others. They need to be challenged at next election and booted. Continuing Budget Resolutions (CR’s) have absolved Republicans reps from proper accountability. I am holding out hope that next Speaker, as a prerequisite for obtaining Speakership, must agree to bring spending bills to House for vote, one-by-one. Get everyone on record for each bill and do not hide it in a CR or ombudsman resolution. Every voter, regardless of party affiliation, should want the same. That is my understanding of how the Founders established our Republic, and the sooner we return to these common sense budget principals, the sooner we can start the long journey to save our Republic for all future generations.
I do not expect anything meaningful to come from this at all. I guess I might give Gaetz and Co. a decent grade for shaking things up temporarily but if history is any indicator this will end up just pissing the general public off and enforcing the idea that the Rs are unable to get anything done. Most aren’t into the “inside baseball “ ideas that you articulate and the media will beat them relentlessly.
Daniel, inflation is high now, higher than it’s been since early 1980’s. Kids are having a hard time buying new homes, interest rates are so elevated. If I’m Gaetz and crew, I’d stay on script that these punishing economic conditions are direct result of too much debt, too much spending. That to me isn’t inside baseball. It’s common sense. Draw up a chart like Ross Perot and stick to it. If opposition cries that Federal workers are not being paid, create singular bills to pass YES/NO to fund. Get back to basics. Of course there is going to be MSM spin doctors.
I’d like to believe people will say “enough” but I thought that in 2022. People couldn’t buy a car, toilet paper and other things. All incumbents were pretty much returned. The Rs should have gotten bigger majorities. Since then there have been 30 Special Elections throughout the country. The Ds have over performed in all of them winning most. Get outside these forums. Most people don’t pay attention to this stuff outside of what they get on their browsers, Facebook or even Fox News. Life doesn’t really suck that much for a lot of people as long as they get their NFL games or whatever the distraction of choice might be. I guess we’re going to see but for now I remain unconvinced.

Elect a Speaker (no matter how long it takes) who agrees to bring forth individual spend bills. I think American voters could easily understand a YES/NO on singular budget issues. You want to ensure Seniors receive their Social Security checks. Pass that bill. Military pay? Pass that bill. Increased funding for Department of Education? Maybe not. In this manner the entire government isn't shut down, just portions of it until compromise on that bill is achieved. And nobody not paying attention, would care. But that is not what the big government Uniparty Leadership wants. They want CR's that bundle everything together. And McCarthy went along with that bundling. So now he's out.
