Capitalism doesn't care what atrocities a regime commit, as long as the capitalist can extort more profit from workers and customers.

Go look up a list of all the US corporations that supplied nazi-Germany even after the US joined the war to see what morals and ethics US capitalists and politicians have always represented.

All our allies hate each other.

All of them have lobbies, this used to be called Tribute, but we’re Team Freedom and we don’t do that...

Great info. However, how exactly does the author believe that Qatar "may get burned this time"? What are his suspicions? Why not enumerate them? Why does it always seem that authors stop just shy of what you really want to know??? Is it just me?

Expand full comment

It’s just you.

But seriously... maybe not?

... the author... uh...

What we have here are allies who hate each other, a political class in America that likes Israel, a State Department and Deep State that doesn’t like Israel... and hates it more because Congress likes it...

But the notion that Qatar is taking over the USA or does anything we don’t encourage, if not directly order... yes, in the same way the Isle of Guernsey or Jersey pushes the UK 🇬🇧 government around.

So I’m not sure now that you mention it where Pedro is going with this either? Who’s going to get Qatar? America? Why?

They are doing what we told them...

Doha hosted the World Athletics Championships (track and field is called "athletics" outside the U.S.) in 2019 and started hosting an annual "Diamond League" meet there every May in 1997.

Yet not only can Qatar host global-scale meets, Russian and Belarussian athletes have been banned from the past two World Athletics Championships because their government is murderous.

As for what might have created this blatant political incon$i$tency, Pedro's excellent article offers some solid clues.

I’ve been saying the war on terror was our 🇺🇸 Jurgathine war since the 2000s .

Where then our Marius ?

Our Sulla?

*Jurgatha was raised as Royal hostage in Rome, we call that Foreign Students. He developed the well informed opinion that everyone was for sale in Rome and war ensued.

And all they get for it is wealth beyond their wildest imagination…oh wait, that’s a pretty good deal! I bet Iraq wishes they would have taken that deal. Afghanistan did which is why from 2002-2010 Afghanistan experienced an economic miracle and the population doubled as every cousin in Pakistan returned…except Afghanistan just got splooged with dollars and not much substantive was developed. I bet Iraq wishes they would have taken the deal when they had the opportunity…America had a lot of dumb money it wanted to spend under Bush/Cheney. ;)

Not sure what the point of Pedro is... Qatar wouldn’t do anything without our say so, so they pay billions in tribute to us in exchange for us not ruining them internally? Pete you blame them?

Yeah I’m sure Qatar wanted to buy a losing Sports franchise, and wants a left wing media outlet in Doha.

“Buy our losing local sports franchise so I can take donors to a game, OR we’ll notice you need some democracy..”

Yeah, Qatar is our backchannel to some pretty vile people. But what’s funny is Tillerson is essentially a member of the Qatar royal family and apparently Trump had no clue that while we were at war in Iraq XOM was in Qatar creating an LNG export industry that would make Qatar wealthy beyond its wildest dreams. And then Trump changed US foreign policy with respect to Qatar to get a billion dollar payout from the Saudis…and then when Khalizad came up with the Afghanistan withdrawal plan Trump had to make nice with Qatar because they are our backchannel to the Taliban.

I will check but believe it.

Trump thought POTUS was CEO, his personnel picks were a horror show until almost the last year of his term (scott miller seems ok, Michael Anton). His son in law... SMH.

Trump blew his Deep State side when he gave up Flynn, and everyone saw this guy runs in a fight. He did.

Runs mouth then runs away.

Trump did do a lot of good for us.

I don’t have a problem with us leaving Afghanistan, it was lost in 2003 when we said be democracy 🤣

I support Trump’s Afghanistan withdrawal…but remember he campaigned on withdrawal and then actually escalated the war until the Doha Agreement.

This is hard to believe but Tillerson actually believed America was running out of natural gas…and so he invested XOM’s windfall profits into Qatar to export LNG to America. A Substacker that hates Biden and is in the energy industry admitted the American energy industry had no idea how we would get more energy production around 2005 other than investing in the Middle East. I don’t know if you followed the 2008 election but Palin’s big accomplishment as governor was greenlighting a natural gas pipeline…that was never built because of fracking in the lower 48 just like we never imported LNG from Qatar because of fracking.

Expand full comment

The perhaps positive effect of over investment in energy is we CAN have not only an economic rebound but a world that doesn’t have to fight quite so much over energy. Can.

We’ll find something else to fight about. Human nature.

This very interesting.

That makes Tillerson ENRON level smart, which is run of the mill all too often.

The notion North America had hit peak production was the conventional wisdom accepted by both Enron and Exxon…Exxon just has a much much more conservative approach to investment. I see FTX as pretty similar to Enron and Lehman Brothers—they all believed their primary assets could only increase in value and so once the bottom fell out of natural gas and housing prices and crypto they all ran into a liquidity crunch.
