Part of me hates the idea of another Bush family dynasty and wishes political dynasties were not allowed, but Florida would be dang lucky to have another DeSantis. The rest of us are jealous.

Why would you think Rep Byron Donalds is a Bush?

You must be thinking of Babs' sonny boy, 'they just be coming out of love'

As a Floridian I am not interested in having Casey run for governor.

I am against a wife, husband or family member just taking a person’s seat (you know like if someone dies) cause they were close to that person. Being a “first lady” is different than being a Governor. She has probably done many good things but she would be, pretty much, riding his coat tails, right?

Luc, I have to agree with you being a Floridian as well! I would like to see Anthony Sabatini run for Governor. He is young and tenacious, he pushed back against draconian COVID lockdowns, he is pro 2A, military background but most of all when he was a state legislature he was draining the swamp up in Tallahassee. Look him up, I think you will agree.

Sabatini seems strong, but perhaps hot headed and done in by his own ambitions/lack of patience? I'd prefer to see him have more than 4 years of experience in the State House before being Governor. Just my initial take after about 10-15 minutes of research.

In general, I agree with you.

If we get four or eight more years anything like the management and success the past four have been, I don't care if you call her a coat tails rider, or a puppet regime, I'm in for it. She is clearly very bright, and they very clearly share the same values and instincts. As much as I like and respect Byron Donalds, if the choice is Casey or Byron, it's an easy call for me.

Quite frankly, as much as I want to root for him and hope he does great things, he is clearly a strong orator and advocate, but I don't trust him yet.

I'm in the UK so no skin in the game but de Santis won a lot of respect over here at how he handled the Covid illusion so his missus to win in a landslide for me 👍!

I must agree. If DeSantis thinks his wife is good for the job, I trust his judgment. But I do like Byron Donald a great deal. He can boil down a description of the political situation better than anyone. Florida is fortunate to have these candidates.

Casey would have my vote. Donald’s is not leadership and I won’t forgive his black history betrayal. Is he a black man who is American or an American black man?

Donalds is an American, who delivers the most incisive commentary and political disquisition of almost anyone, that is to say he understands what’s going on and describes it perfectly. He would be a fabulous governor. Please leave your racism outside. That said I think DeSantis is a fabulous governor.

Get over yourself. Just the mere mention of his race does NOT make me a racist. That said, please provide me with facts of Donald's outstanding intellect. I will hold my breath.

How absurd. “facts”?! The only fact to assess his intellect would be an IQ score! Short of that, the only facts are what he says in public. What are YOUR facts?

This is childish. You stated he would be a fabulous governor. I just want examples of his performance that supports your statement. No need to ridicule my position .

DeSantis clan are Bush puppets.

While campaigning they showed their true colours. They are gross and can’t be trusted.

She’s whiney and a cling on.

Big No to the DeSantis fakers.

Donald Trump's political coattails are notoriously short, slippery, and easily torn to shreds...

This is nothing but wishful thinking. Trump has transformed the country, and possibly the rest of the world. First he destroyed the Republicans, then the Democrats, and now he is dismantling the bureaucracy known as the swamp.

Suggest you examine the 2018 midterm elections during President Trump's first term (as 2026 will also be a midterm election cycle). That would be the midterm election that cost Trump the Republican House and gave Democrats the platform they so desperately needed (and brilliantly used) to bring congressional actions against the president, eventually damaging him sufficiently to defeat his 2020 bid for re-election.

There's a very good chance that the heavy lifting needed to get the recklessness of the Biden administration brought under control will provide Democrats fertile ground to sow widespread voter anger and angst against President Trump, thereby undercutting his ability to maintain or improve upon today's VERY thin congressional majorities. Based on Trump's history, the major impact of his two terms could very well come down to what is accomplished between January 21, 2025 and the seating of the new (Democratic?) Congress in January of 2027. Trump and his team had best get busy...

I'm sure they can tap into alternate sources of funds. Helluva lot of foundations, councils, institutes, and centers chock full of lefties/liberals sitting on piles of cash. It's not funding that will foul them up—Dem donors have VERY deep pockets. Harris put together (and burned through) a war chest of close to $2 billion in just over 100 days.

To whip Dems, the GOP needs to puts some REAL wins on the board; nobody but political junkies give a shit about USAID money or whether the Department of Education lives or dies. What counts is jobs coming in (see Apple), illegal aliens going out (see NYC closing migrant hotels), and DEI, trans, and blue/pink/green hair being buried once and for all.

Though I hate to say this, but it may come down to misogyny or racism amongst many Florida voters. Mrs DeSantis likely encouraged Ron to run—an awful political decision. Loyalty and trust seem to be lacking in her. Donalds would be the better choice and a likely stepping stone to higher office.

If this ends up being a race between Donalds and DeSantis, the choice is clear, and it's not close. Casey DeSantis can clearly be counted on to fight for the values that Floridians hold dear. I don't mean to knock Byron Donalds as he seems to be a relatively effective Congressman and as far as I can tell is pulling in the right direction, but the only accomplishment of his career seems to be securing his place at the Swamp Trough. I want to, but don't trust him at all.
