From the frying pan into the fire (e.g. TikTok to Little Red Book). Sadly, most Americans using either don't care a whit about what restrictions the CCP imposes on free speech or their collection and use of personal data from users. It's just gimme the ability to post whatever is I wan't post - and who cares about implications or consequences.

I'm trying to get this to Bannon's team. They are advocating for the ban. Bad idea! For one, now the fools are going to a worse place. And secondly, the government should not be in the business of BANNING to keep us safe (for the most part). But this is a particularly egregious 1A violation. If we don't like what TT is teaching, then we need better teachers and better parents.

Why was it allowed in the first place? I’ll tell ya. Globalization. Y’all think China would allow America business to do this? Yet, China suppose to have rights here?

@Emily - you know I have your back, but not on this. People everywhere generally are stupid and/or ignorant and in the US it's particularly compounded by mass laziness and expectations of many that they deserve whatever they desire. That Americanism is seen by the CCCP (rightly so) as a strategic weakness. The apps they export here are nothing more than military tools to infiltrate and inculcate the society (as the examples show, comrade) and it's easy because of the reasons given. I'm not for government censorship but I am for the government defending the country against foreign adversaries and china is in the top spot.

Arguably musk and his fake "censorship free" platform, zuck and his fake censorship mia copa, everything google and what most large tech companies do gathering data against the citizenry, whether the citizenry is aware or not, is extremely bad. But allowing a country that is sending tens of thousands of invaders across our borders and is hiding social weaponry in an app, is 100x more extreme and needs to end. That with the port cranes, electrical transformers, jet components, and innumerable other critical infrastructure they've been green lighted to infiltrate and use as future weapons of control, all needs to be curtailed. And of course, they own DNA data on millions of Americans now too.

The days of hostile foreign countries being allowed to destroy our society through whitewashed exports has to be terminated or it will terminate us.

Having said that, I expect the government, trump or not, to do nothing. I don't care if millions of Americans destroy their lives dancing with the chinese, but they bring everyone down with them, so regulation of foreign weapons of any kind, in my view, is a good thing.

The US tech companies and their CEOs kissing trumps fat ass even at this very moment, are dangerous enough. Not thwarting china on every front is rapid suicide.

(BTW this is my brief response on this topic)

The USG gives a middle finger to the 1A so TikTok users give a middle finger to the USG. Frankly, I don't give a damn if the Chinese steal all our cat videos. I am much more concerned with government censorship and spying here at home.

I can tell you my daughter who was a tic tock user and fan now loves Little Red Book. She hates the forces that banned Tick Toc and loves the "friendly" Chinese users she has encountered on Little Red Book. She doesn't give a hoot about date privacy on know much about the oppressive CCP. She claims US based social media does the same thing so what's the difference.

The older I get, the more I realize that people are completely retarded and that it is only by God's mercy that we are not consumed. Reddit and TikTok are examples of a more "subtle" propaganda (only by comparison), so not seeing them for what they are is still surprising but understandable to a degree. But if we as a society can't see through such naked propaganda as RedBook, there is no hope.

Thank you for this article, Jordan. This app is disturbing, but even more so the anti-American, communist rants by the first two people. Is this what our education system is producing? Terrifying.

Appreciate you for this. Even though Tik Tok is back for now, I find it very alarming how many ran over to the Chinese app. Just nice to read someone else writing about it too.

"The first thing I did after downloading the app was to film a video about the Tiananmen Square massacre"

Talk about stupid Foreigner Behavior, you take the cake. Run right in like a dumb American and insult everyone and wonder what happened? You should be a little bit more respectful and you might learn something. Walk softly and shut your mouth. Learn to listen before you go showing off. I lived in China for 6 months and the first thing you learn to do is not insult the government unless you're literally asking for major problems.

You clearly missed the point. All these Americans have this false idea that The Little Red [Communist] Book somehow allows MORE freedom than Tik-Tok. Posting about Tianeman Square and Xi Jin Ping was to prove a point that it ISNT a "freedom" app.

There are good Chinese and there are bad Chinese. Then there are ugly Chinese.

Same thing can be said of Americans and for that matter, all nationalities.

What is most important now is to recognise that we the human race must never allow the bad and the ugly to dictate their evil intentions and terms on the majority of good people, come what may.

Is the data the app gets (besides financial info, if one pays for ads) significantly more than what millions of Americans post publicly on Facebook? Is it your browsing history via your phone?

Expand full comment
Question Everything's avatar

Regardless of the answer, would you rather have your data in the hands of a foreign government who WANTS to destroy you? For the record, these Chinese apps record all your keystrokes - even when you're not on the app. There was a ton of discussion about this happening on Tik Tok and then everyone apparently forgot about it...
