And in the end, this will serve as another example of how proxy wars devour the countries they purport to defend.

This wasn’t a proxy war—Biden gently urged Zelensky to cut a deal with Putin but in the end it is Zelensky’s call to do what is best for his country. As Americans we believe there are causes worth dying for and we must respect other countries defending their sovereignty. America finally was on the right side of history unlike in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Strongly disagree. And it's well known that there was an April 2022 deal between Ukraine-Russia that was blocked by the U.S.

No. Biden told Zelensky unequivocally that Putin was invading…if Biden wanted to trick Zelensky into not cutting a deal with Putin he would have told Zelensky that Putin is bluffing and there is no reason to cut a deal. Zelensky has said multiple times that he would never cut a deal with Putin because he doesn’t trust him. And we know from the first Trump impeachment that Zelensky was gung ho about the lethal aid and Trump was president!!

Expand full comment

Yup, Biden told Zelensky that Russia was invading and US intelligence agencies were practically giving play-by-play updates, and yet Biden still refused to table the NATO status question. Because of our obstinacy and reckless flirtation in dangling this carrot to Ukraine, we crossed a red line for Russia without even committing to Ukraine’s defense. The promise of future NATO membership comes with no security guarantees.

It's a proxy war. It may not have immediately started that way, but it quickly became one. If you honestly cannot see that, you are being willfully blind.

It is in our interest to degrade Russia’s military capacity just as it was in France’s interest to degrade Great Britain’s military capacity in 1776. Do you think our war for independence was a proxy war because France funded us and sent us military leaders like Lafayette??

Expand full comment

"It is in our interest to degrade Russia’s military capacity." You literally just acknowledged that it's a proxy war. We're prolonging a conflict that has absolutely crippled Ukraine.

Victory isn't even the point. The point is maximum destruction. Even if Ukraine is forced in defeat to negotiate with Russia and concede territory for peace, as well as accept status as a neutral nation, Washington will have achieved its primary goal of weakening Russia’s military capacity and isolating Putin from Europe. The arming of Ukraine is not missionary work. It has nothing to do with liberty or freedom. It is about weakening Russia. Take Russia out of the equation and there would be little tangible support for Ukraine.

Expand full comment

Why do you think they funded us, if it was not a proxy war, as we understand that term today? One can practically hear King Louis XV: we have to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over here.

How is it in the interest of the US taxpayer to degrade the Russian military?

Expand full comment

Putin moved troops close to the Ukraine border after Ukraine moved massive troops close to the Donbas which they had been bombing for 8 years. Ukraine did start bombing again and that’s when Russia finally crossed the border and to protect the Donbas areas that had been accepted into Russia.

And the reason the Donbas areas were targeted was because they didn’t accept the illegal government after Obama’s brutal coup in 2014. Im always amazed at how ignorant pro Ukraine folks are about what led up to the war. Especially Americans who don’t give a damn how ruthless their country is. Maybe read some history before spouting this nonsense and looking as ignorant as you do.

Russia learned DC isn't worthy of trust when Western "leaders" acknowledged that they'd used the Minsk Agreements to defraud Russia. I for one doubt Russia is negotiating with DC. They know they must take out DC's puppets in Kiev (murderous authoritarians installed via the 2014 coup) to truly solve the problem.

I agree. And when the US and NATO tacitly admit defeat by suggesting peace negotiations, why would Putin be interested in saying “Sure!” instead of pressing his advantage as far as he can? The WEF, Neocons, etc. have left no graceful exits for anyone involved. All ways out at this point will be catastrauphic in one way or another. Their planning didn’t include the possibility of defeat. Typical of the arrogant, ideologically-driven boobs who always rise to the top.

The problem with one's virtual reality is when it collides with real reality. Russia protected their own in the Donbass, controls the most productive land in Ukraine, killed 300K Ukrainian soldiers give or take, destroyed any/all vaunted equipment the West peddled, is enlarging, rebuilding and modernizing its armed forces, and grew its economy. That's quite the bitter loss for Bad Vlad.

I'll talk about one of the four bullet points: The unprecedented recruiting crisis for the Pentagram. Oops...I meant, Pentagon.

Based upon their idea of trying to introduce all kinds of libtard projects like the famous Diversity, Equity and Inclusion training ideas (more appropriately known as Dumbassery and Extreme Idiocy programs), did they really expect a different result? Those who are most willing to fight to defend their country don't want to have their leadership spitting in their collective faces every step of the way. Didn't those mornos learn anything from Vietnam?

It's not that the nation is anti-alphabet soup; it's that promoting those ideas above military readiness is the biggest act of dumbassery I have ever witnessed. Our brave young men and women don't sign up to be part of a fighting force that isn't hell-bent upon using the military for legitimate military goals.

Maybe I might change my description of DEI. It might mean Dumbshit Enablement Initiative.

The plan at Vilnius was to kick Ukraine to the curb and solidify NATO's interest in doubling down. The war will end soon enough, but it will be a bloody, nuclear event. Putin still sees NATO as an existential threat, and NATO will not concede anything. Since conventional ammo is about gone, nukes are the only remaining option.

Nobody wanted this war except Biden, EU, NATO - ie. collective west. This war has shown the world - Biden regime/Neocons, EU, and NATO, for what they really are - greedy, pilfering crime lords. Sanctions killed industrial Europe, killed their affordable energy sources, and weakened the overall infrastructure of Europe. In contrast, Russia has lowered their inflation significantly, has healthy industry, and has escaped the blackmail of the American dollar.

We are not(!) energy dominant. We should/could be, but Biden has killed that superiority. The oil nations of the Middle East are in full control. Russia is selling gas to our allies through an intermediary. Biden has all but emptied our gas reserves. He went to Venezuela BEGGING for gas, for gawd sakes!!

Putin will not tolerate further aggression on his borders. Agreements, multiples, we're made that there would be no NATO on Russia's borders. Ukraine knows this, agreed to it. Germany and France agreed to enforce the Minsk Agreements. They lied. The US has been weaponizing Ukraine for years, antagonizing Russia, and since 2014, the US has been funding a proxy war with some crazy idea they can get Putin removed. Pray that doesn't happen. It's certainly not happening any time soon.

Putin is the only one that wanted this war. We are energy dominant because we are producing record amounts of oil and natural gas and exporting record amounts of LNG.

With China’s barely fettered aggression since Biden took office, it is impossible to fathom why our Commander and Chief would preemptively (and ill-advisedly) exhaust our:

1. Petroleum reserves;

2. Munitions and other wartime technologies; and

3. Troop reserves (particularly when they will serve no purpose including diplomatic, as 3,000 troops in an armed conflict of this scope and magnitude are less than nothing).

By the President’s own logic, at least that which he proffered during our calamitous withdrawal from Afghanistan, we should not get involved in forever wars and this piecemealing of resources with no clear strategy is certainly a recipe for that outcome.

To characterize this as anything other than an ill-considered and feeble political ploy is insanity but, given the disgraceful rhetoric around the economy and Biden’s policies relative to it, insanity is definitely the order of the day.

Great article, Jordan, and serves as a tidy, concise, thoughtful, and astute summation of the most probable causes and effects baked into with our dementia-addled President’s flawed calculus as it pertains to Ukraine. This is, without any question, the most corrupt, inept, and damaging presidency in our history. They weaken us even as they embolden our enemies, and we will be years (if not decades) recovering.

They are definitely not going to end this war and any apparent peace-posturing is purely for optics. South Korea will make shells, just enough to keep dragging it out though (I don't think a decisive Ukraine victory is expected or needed, though it's a possibility). Similarly, there are plenty of adrenaline -junkie mercs to sprinkle on the conflict to keep it simmering for years.
