The Effective Altruism movement’s core premise is that you can calculate the objectively correct moral position through reason and evidence. That’s fine as a philosophical framework. The problem comes when people holding that framework think it gives them authority to override constitutional processes or impose their “calculations” on others. The Effective Altruist movement dominates the AI space, and it is inundated with executives who believe they have superior moral reasoning and should therefore have outsized influence over civilizational decisions. And that’s exactly what’s happening with Anthropic in its campaign to dictate its moral framework upon the government, and the Trump Administration’s pushback to that initiative.

Killer robots are clearly within the constitutional purview of the CiC

Mass surveillance of the US population, not so much. It has only been a year since this was a clear and present danger, the Constitution be damned. Another 3 years it may be on the table again.

As reported : The military wants A.I. for domestic spying, among other "treasures",and i,for one, view that as an extreme abomination and EVEN if they only want to "use it" on "our", (their) enemies,i know it is wrong and i don't wish that on my fiercest enemy. Every little evil thing we approve of WILL turn around and bite us in the A☆¤. Same as if we sit stiff and say and/or do nothing. Jus sayin
