I’ve been extremely pleased with the courage and stamina displayed by the 20 holdouts. Them telling Trump to kindly piss off was the highlight of Wednesday morning for me. But I’m afraid they simply don’t have the numbers to continue this much longer. There are 18 House Republicans representing districts that Biden won, 10 of those districts Biden won by +6 points or more. Democrats only need to pick off 6 of those Reps with a few sweetheart offers and they can elect Jefferies. Obviously that would be the most extreme outcome but it’s not out of the realm of possibilities if this thing gets pushed into late next week. Break McCarthy down, make him surrender to all demands, but once that’s done, vote him in. There’s nothing to be gained from electing a Scalise or even worse, a Democrat.

There are Republicans who seem to be willing to vote for a Democrat for Speaker if they don't get McCarthy. I think that would be fascinating to see. I wonder why they don't do the obvious and change to the Democrat party.
