Covid 2.0: Democrats are trying to break the economy and blame it on Trump, so it's time to nuke the filibuster
The malevolent forces in D.C. are weaponizing the shutdown to turn POTUS into a lame duck.
The government shutdown continues, and the cascading effects of a paralyzed American economy and society continue to get worse. In other words, it’s all going according to plan. We’ve seen this movie before. This is what Democrats did during Trump’s first term. Then, the excuse was covid and social justice. Today, the excuse is more government funding for illegal aliens and more welfare money.
But make no mistake, trashing the economy and crippling societal infrastructure is part of the plan. D.C. is rostered with politically ruthless individuals and organizations that will do virtually anything to obtain power. They seek to impose maximum carnage and to leave Trump holding the bag and receiving all of the blame.

Here’s where things stand right now:
The ongoing U.S. government shutdown began on October 1, 2025, after Congress failed to pass a simple temporary funding bill. As of mid-week, it’s become the longest shutdown in American history.
As the corporate media describes it, the impasse stems from irreconcilable demands over a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government temporarily. Republicans initially insisted on a “clean” CR extending funding through November 21 (we are now only two weeks from that date) without additional provisions, while Democrats refuse to support a clean funding bill unless it includes extensions for Obamacare subsidies set to expire in January.
The rift has led to over a dozen failed Senate votes on a House-passed funding measure, with Democrats blocking advancement under the filibuster rule, which requires 60 votes to invoke cloture and bring a vote to the Senate floor.
Compounding these disagreements is the political momentum of recent days, which was significantly amplified by the Tuesday elections, where Republicans underperformed in Virginia and New Jersey, and which saw communist lunatic Zohran Mamdani elected as the mayor of New York City.
Democrats are now emboldened by these results, and they’ve successfully turned the shutdown into a “GOP crisis” with the help of the corporate media. They now seek to leverage their electoral victories to either paralyze the Trump Administration or extract concessions on Democrat priorities. If President Trump is to engage in the latter act, he will be perceived as a lame duck, just one year into his second term, which will further embolden Democrats now and down the line.
This seemingly leaves the president with no choice but to push the “nuclear option” and encourage Congress to end the filibuster.
GOP leaders need at least 7 Democratic votes to reach 60, and Democrats have unanimously refused to provide any of those seven votes unless Republicans agree to the ransom funding of their priorities. Peeling off a single Democrat from the directives of their congressional leaders is a rare feat, as they almost always vote in lockstep. Peeling off SEVEN Democrats is pretty much impossible.
Because Democrats refuse to deliver 60 votes, the Senate — along with the U.S. economy — is completely frozen. No funding bill can even be debated on the floor, let alone passed.
President Trump is now demanding (rightly in my view) that Senate Republicans eliminate the legislative filibuster entirely via the “nuclear option.” President Trump has publicly threatened to primary any Republican senator who refuses, posting on Truth Social that “any Republican who doesn’t vote to end the filibuster is a DEMOCRAT in disguise.” However, at least four GOP senators — Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Thom Tillis, and Rand Paul — have repeatedly stated they will not vote to nuke the filibuster for appropriations bills, meaning Republicans cannot get the simple majority (51 votes) needed to change the rule. Democrats, knowing that the libertarian and “RINO” factions have capitulated, now have even less incentive to compromise. They believe they can force Obamacare expansion and further concessions simply by running out the clock indefinitely.
Democrats are running the Fauci playbook on President Trump, and the GOP should be focusing all of their energies on bringing the holdout Senators in line. That is the only play to avoid disaster. Eliminate the filibuster and open the economy before the president’s electoral mandate and executive momentum disappear entirely.
It is likely the Democrats assume most voters are too ignorant to realize who is at fault and will automatically blame the evil Republicans, and the media will do very little to correct that. And it is also very likely they are correct.
